The power of a SEO in digital Marketing

SEO- Search Engine Optimization- is an underrated marketing tool for building an effective digital marketing campaign. A carefully thought-out and executed SEO not only drives traffic to a website but also increases the click-through rate of the content of your website.

It's week 4 of the boot camp already and the theme of this week's assignment revolves around SEO and strategic marketing.

"Carry out SEO and Content Audit on your blog using seoptimer.com and have an SEO score of 90 by the end of the week."

The task looked simple but it required SEO expertise and consistent work towards making our blog's SEO get to a score of 90. However, with the thorough work put in in the previous week, our blog was already gaining recognition from foreigners as well as comments from different people who came across the blog while surfing the internet. We had gathered momentum but more work still needed to be done.

Using seoptimer.com, the score at the beginning of the week was a C-. A lot of needed corrections were highlighted which included but were not limited to

  • Meta headlines.
  • Keyword ranking
  • Backlinking

On Monday, we held meetings and discussed the findings we made about the corrections that needed to be done on the blog. We decided to research the different corrections. Everybody had to carry out this research and choose three problems they could solve from the recommendations given by the stop timer.

Tuesday rolled in with each researcher bringing their findings, observations, and corrections. During the Tuesday meeting, we opted to focus on the backlinking and usability of the blog.

On Wednesday, We concluded on strengthening our back linking with these two strategies:

  1. Post our content on guest websites like lifehacker.com, buzzfeed.com, wikihow.com, etc. This was to increase our back linking and strengthen our SEO.

  2. Collaborating with other food bloggers and posting our content on their websites.

To effectively carry out number 1, we had to come up with content that would not only be posted on our blog but also would be posted on this website. We also decided to learn from other boot campers by visiting their blogs and learning from them.

During the week, we ran into some unprecedented problems. Hitherto, the blog was created using "blogger". Whilst being a good app, it was bound to run into technical issues as was characteristic of their website, compared to WordPress. We ran into technical issues and we had to invite a front-end web developer to work on the blog to enable the website to work better.

On Thursday, we had a meeting in which Promise suggested re-structuring our previous blog posts and posting on the aforementioned guest websites. These re-structured posts would be accompanied by a powerful copy and infographics. This was guaranteed to boost our SEO and blog marketing. We agreed to this suggestion and worked towards it.

Promise, a member of the group, carried out a lot of hard work on the blog from changing the meta heading, like seoptimer.com suggested, to working on keywords and other issues presented on the website. By the end of the week, we were able to move our SEO ranking from C- to a B, a 77% score. This result came despite the technical issues we faced during the week.

In conclusion, this week was a trying week but we did our best. We look forward to what the new week will bring.
